La Cañada Flintridge is a quiet, wealthy enclave between Pasadena and Glendale, with some of the best dog walks in greater LA. Fluffy Puppy Grooming is about ten minutes west via the 134 and 210 freeways — worth the drive for the right groomer.
La Cañada Flintridge was the home of Andrew McNally (of Rand McNally publishing) starting in 1887, and the city was incorporated in 1976 by joining two adjacent unincorporated communities, La Cañada and Flintridge. Its crown jewel is Descanso Gardens — 150 acres of camellias, roses, and ancient California oaks first opened to the public in 1953, built around the original 1939 estate of Los Angeles Daily News publisher E. Manchester Boddy. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory — managed by Caltech — shares the city limits, and the Hahamongna Watershed and Devil's Gate Dam offer some of the best off-leash dog territory in the SGV.
LCF dogs trend larger — many homes have acreage. Golden retrievers, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Great Pyrenees, Australian Shepherds, Aussiedoodles. The trails behind JPL, the Devil's Gate Dam, and the streamside paths through Hahamongna are dog favorites, which means LCF dogs come in with above-average mud levels. Many LCF families bring two or three dogs at once.
Our De-Shedding Treatment and Full Groom are the top LCF services. We've handled plenty of Bernese coats blown out from a Sunday at Descanso. We're worth the ten-minute drive — there are closer groomers, but few who'll spend two patient hours on a single Great Pyrenees without rushing or charging extra surprises.
